BMW's redesigned 3 Series sedan is just beginning to reach U.S. dealers, but the German automaker is already working on additional derivatives and variations.

The next addition to the family is the 3 Series wagon, which should arrive in North America late this fall as a 2006 model. It will make its public debut in September at the Frankfurt auto show, and should be in showrooms by November. Engine choices will be similar to those for the sedan.

BMW then will gradually phase in the rest of the 3 Series range over the next two to three years, as it has done with previous generations. A redesigned 3 Series coupe will be introduced in late 2006 and a new convertible in spring 2007. A new M3 edition, reportedly fitted with a 400-horsepower 4.0-liter V-8, is also due in 2007.
