German parent BMW AG is redesigning and re-engineering its British-built Mini Cooper for model year 2007, with some intriguing changes in store.
In addition to the current two-door hardtop and convertible, Mini is rumored to be readying a stretched four-door model with more rear seat room and luggage space. According to the European rumor mill, there is also a two-seat "speedster" in the works and a possible wagon patterned after the original Mini Clubman.
Judging from spy photos, Mini won't stray far from the current boxy design, although the front face and the cabin will be updated as part of the '07 makeover. Two hot new turbocharged engines, delivering 140 and 170 horsepower, respectively, are said to be in the pipeline as well.
