Mercedes-Benz will follow up this fall's launch of the redesigned S-class sedan with an all-new edition of the big CL coupe. A public debut is anticipated in Detroit in January or in Geneva in March.
The sheet metal is completely revamped, with a sleeker, more modern profile, and the cabin is extensively upgraded. The new CL, which goes on sale in Europe next spring and in North America in the fall, also gets the latest in advanced technology, including active steering and automatic lane guidance.
Engines for the U.S. market are expected to include a 5.5-liter V-8 in the CL550 and a twin-turbocharged V-12 in the CL600. The range-topping model, designated CL63 AMG, will get a normally aspirated 600-horsepower 6.3-liter V-12.
