DETROIT -- Two children were listed in critical condition Tuesday after suffering what police said was carbon monoxide poisoning while waiting inside a car in their garage.
The mother told Detroit police that she was getting ready to go out in the morning and placed the two boys, ages 10 and 4, in her vehicle and started the engine before going back in the house.
The mother said she was gone only a few minutes. She said she left the garage door open, but the boys somehow closed it, Officer Kevin Jones said.
Police spokesman James Tate said the boys were unresponsive when police arrived, but regained consciousness. They were listed in critical condition at Children's Hospital of Michigan, he said.
