Troy: Rebecca Johns, a science teacher at Troy High School, has been honored by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners for her national achievement in science. Johns was selected from science teachers across the nation to be a National Science Ambassador. She is one of 15 teachers in the nation to receive this honor.

Birmingham: Roeper School students Blendia Hubbard, Kalin Sellers, Terrence Way, Avanti Cowart, Amber Joiner-Hill and Katricia Smith have received a combined total of $116,640 in scholarships from the The Skillman Foundation to cover their tuition for the 2005-06 school year at the private school for gifted students. The foundation awards $21.7 million in scholarships annually.

Bloomfield Hills: Eleven Oakland Community College students have received $200 scholarships from the college. They are Autumn Caines of Oak Park, Simona Ghiurau of Beverly Hills, Katherine James of Rochester Hills, Kristyn King of Detroit, Linda Martin of Clarkston, Ellen McLaughlin of Davisburg, Patricia McMinn of Madison Heights, Holly Warnos of Clawson and Jennifer Pare, Staci Sessions and Rose-Ellen Filthaut, all of Royal Oak.
