Dream Cruise VIPs get plenty of perks

The spectacle that is the Woodward Dream Cruise is special, but it can be even more special with the purchase of a "VIP Cruisers" pass for $25.

The pass -- only 12,500 are available -- gives holders access to special automotive activities in Metro Detroit for all of August, a limited-edition Woodward Dream Cruise commemorative plaque and discounts and benefits valued at more than $100. Proceeds from the sale of the plaques will be used to help fund the cost of running the cruise in each of the nine cities that host the iconic event.

Benefits include discounts on automotive art, clothing and jewelry on display at the Horsepower Heritage gallery at the Michigan State Fair, two-for-one admission to the Sloan Museum in Flint, discounts on Dream Cruise sunglasses at Optik Birmingham, food discounts, detailing discounts at Jax Car Wash, a discounted annual membership to The Henry Ford and more.

Cruisers interested in securing a VIP Cruisers pass must register online at the MotorCities Web site at: www.motorcities.org or at www.woodwarddreamcruise.com.

    I-75
    I-75 between Clark and Rosa Parks is closed.
    The ramp from Eight Mile to northbound I-75 is closed until mid-August.
    The left lane of southbound I-75 has been closed at Nine Mile, starting at the I-696/75 interchange.
    A single lane of southbound I-75 has been closed from Crooks to Maple. Crews have started bridge repairs on northbound l-75 between Maple and Crooks. Traffic will be shifted to the shoulder. Two lanes will remain closed in both directions until early December.
    MDOT has started bridge repairs on I-75 near the Ohio border. Expect lane closures during the day. This work should be completed in about two weeks.
    I-96
    Wixom is down to a single lane between Grand River and I-96. MDOT is also repairing Grand River from U.S. 23 to Pleasant Valley. Expect delays.
    I-96 is closed between Warren and Rosa Parks for up to 90 days for reconstruction.
    M-59
    M-59 is reduced to two lanes with a traffic shift between Groesbeck and Gratiot until mid-August for repairs to the railroad crossing.
    U.S. 23
    MDOT has started repairs on U.S. 23 from School to Ida Center roads, near Dundee. There will be lane restrictions daily. This work should be completed by the end of August.
    Eight Mile (M-102)
    MDOT is resurfacing 14 miles of Eight Mile from I-94 to the Lodge Freeway (M-10) in Wayne and Oakland counties. Two lanes will be closed, while two lanes will remain open during construction. The first segment to be resurfaced will be from the Lodge to I-75. This project should be completed in November.
    Macomb County
    Cass is being widened to five lanes from the Clinton River Bridge to north of 19 Mile in Clinton Township. Traffic shifts are in place.
    Crews will resurface the I-696 service drive from Dequindre to Milton. This project will last until September. Expect delays.
    Telegraph (U.S. 24)
    MDOT is rebuilding a 1 1/2 -mile stretch of Telegraph between West and Carter roads in Brownstown Township. The Dix-Toledo/Telegraph intersection will be closed to through traffic for reconstruction. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction on Telegraph.
    14 Mile/Farmington Road
    The Road Commission is building a roundabout at 14 Mile and Farmington. Farmington is closed at the north side of the intersection. Farmington on the south is closed for resurfacing between 13 Mile and 14 Mile.
    Mack Avenue
    Mack Avenue is being resurfaced between Moross and Vernier roads. Expect delays.

Gas prices dip again

The Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations nationwide shows gas prices continuing to drop. The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline at self-serve stations was $3.85 Friday, down almost 15 cents from two weeks ago. Midgrade was $3.98 and premium went for $4.10.
