Hillsdale, Mich. -- Billy Kanitz scored on a 1-yard run with 36 seconds remaining Saturday to give Hillsdale a 27-24 win over Grand Valley State -- its first victory against the Lakers since 1994.

It was the first defeat in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference since 2004 for Grand Valley, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II.

Mike Koster caught an 8-yard pass from Brad Iciek to give Grand Valley (6-1, 5-1) a 6-0 lead. Justin Trumble's point-after try failed. Iciek later found Blake Smolen for a 28-yard score in the third quarter.
