Students leave hospital after Idaho bus crash

Inkom, Idaho -- A bus carrying a celebrated Utah high school band swerved off an Idaho interstate this weekend and crashed on its side, killing an instructor and injuring multiple students. Police identified the person killed in the Saturday wreck as 33-year-old Heather Christensen of Spanish Fork, Utah, a woodwind instructor for the American Fork High School band. Dozens of students were taken to a hospital, but only one remained Sunday evening, and she was expected to be released today.

Man arrrested in 1968 plane hijacking

New York -- A man wanted for hijacking a plane out of New York 40 years ago was arrested Sunday after arriving on a flight from Cuba, federal authorities said. Luis Armando Pena Soltren, 66, was wanted for his role in the Nov. 24, 1968, hijacking of a Pan Am flight bound for Puerto Rico. Soltren is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Manhattan on a 1968 indictment.

Calif. to test DUI auto ignition law

Sacramento, Calif. -- California will test requiring that drivers convicted of drunken driving install devices that block vehicles from starting if alcohol is detected on the drivers' breath. The bill is among those signed into law Sunday by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

U.S. Marines give aid to Philippine city

Baguio, Philippines -- U.S. Marine CH-46 helicopters loaded with rice, sardines and drinking water flew Sunday into a stricken Philippine mountain city where supplies are running short after landslides triggered by a storm blocked roads and buried dozens of residents. Three days after tons of mud and rock cascaded down hillsides in Baguio because of heavy rains, rescuers were still digging for survivors.

Car bombings kill 19 in western Iraq

Baghdad -- A spate of car bombings killed 19 people Sunday in Iraq's western Anbar province, once a hotbed of insurgency that later become a showcase for restoring peace. The province was the scene of some of the most intense fighting by U.S. troops during the insurgency.

Boyzone's Gately dies at 33: Stephen Gately, a singer with the Irish boy band Boyzone has died while on vacation in Spain, the group said on its Web site Sunday. He was 33. The cause of death was not immediately clear.

Cirque founder back from space: The Russian Soyuz capsule carrying Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte and two other space travelers, Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka and NASA astronaut Michael Barratt, landed safely in Kazakhstan on Sunday.
