Brighton

Deficit may cost district one elementary school

Cash-strapped Brighton Area Schools may close one of its five elementary schools next year to offset a growing deficit resulting from reductions in state aid. The expected $6 million budget has ballooned to $9 million based on cuts recently made by the state, officials said.

Residents invited to apply for interim clerk post

The Township Board is accepting residents' applications until next Tuesday to fill the position of clerk following the recall of Matt Skiba on Nov. 3. The appointee will hold the position until the February 2010 election.
