Bloomfield Hills -- Alexandra Cocklin of Bloomfield Hills Marian was named Miss Volleyball today.

Cocklin, a 5-foot-11 senior outside hitter, won the prestigious award in voting by the coaches association over her teammate, libero Rachel Charles.

Cocklin, who will play at Akron next year, is a four-year varsity player for the Mustangs, as is Charles, who is headed to Lehigh.

"It's a great feeling to have one of our players named Miss Volleyball," Marian coach Irick Gardner said. "To have our players be 1-2 in the voting makes it that much more special.

"Alex has worked hard for four years. She's been a key part of our offense. She was a big weapon, even as a freshman when we didn't have that complete of an offense."

Marian, 75-2 and ranked No. 1, will face Utica Eisenhower in a Class A quarterfinal Tuesday (7 p.m.) at Harrison Township L'Anse Creuse. The Mustangs advanced to the state championship match the previous two years, losing to Jenison both times.
