Lions' Stafford shows true grit in beating Browns

He wanted to finish it, no matter the pain or the consequences. He was going back in, no matter what the doctors or coaches said. If the story of Matthew Stafford develops as hoped, there's a pretty good chance it started right there. - 11/23/2009

Radical improvement will be demanded of Rodriguez in 2010

Where, exactly, was the improvement from the start of the season to the end? After a 4-0 start that clearly masked some of the Wolverines' ills, they didn't beat anyone other than Delaware State, which is ridiculous. - 11/21/2009

Not even overrated Buckeyes can mess this one up

There's a lesson in all this, and although Buckeyes are notoriously inattentive creatures, they can learn from their rivals: Don't take anything for granted. - 11/19/2009

More heat comes Rodriguez's way

It all keeps piling up, the losses, the defensive collapses, the noise. Rich Rodriguez's program hasn't gone anywhere positive yet, and now it sits at a dangerous crossroad, fair or not, premature or not. - 11/17/2009

Lions can't succeed without better line

On one play in the fourth quarter, Matthew Stafford ducked and scrambled and fought off tacklers, then finally broke loose. - 11/16/2009

Tigers shouldn't trade Curtis Granderson

I understand the economics around here, and I understand the nature of baseball. The Tigers have some tough decisions this offseason. If they're really thinking about trading All-Stars Curtis Granderson and Edwin Jackson, I think they're nuts. - 11/14/2009

Inexhaustible Tom Izzo is never satisfied at MSU

His Spartans are No. 2 in the country, coming off a title game appearance in Detroit and favored to win the Big Ten. As good as it gets. Almost. - 11/13/2009

A nice fit is hard to find at Michigan, Notre Dame

If you have a moment, let's return to the good ol' days of Michigan and Notre Dame football, and by "good ol' days," I'm referring to "September." - 11/12/2009

Only time will help these woeful Lions

The Lions were making big plays, forcing turnovers, grabbing a 17-0 lead, but in the end, the difference was at quarterback. - 11/09/2009

To football fans, hoops are looking good right now

Michigan now regularly loses Big Ten games by 25 points and tosses the ball away as if scattering flowers at a wedding. - 11/05/2009

There's hope at U-M, MSU: Basketball season starts soon!

Has it really come down to this? Michigan now regularly loses Big Ten games by 25 points and tosses the ball away as if scattering flowers at a wedding. Michigan State repeatedly tortures its fans with staggering losses. - 11/04/2009

Rich Rodriguez must focus on defense

Rich Rodriguez tries to stay calm, but the unrest temporarily quelled by Michigan's 4-0 start stirs anew, and some of the concerns aren't going away. The Wolverines are fading again in familiar areas, especially on defense. - 11/03/2009

Latest loss an embarrassment, even by Lions' standards

Oh, it wasn't the biggest blowout or the most-shocking loss, but what the Lions showed (and didn't show) in their 17-10 loss to the previously winless Rams was staggering. - 11/02/2009

Pistons' Ben Gordon no spotlight hog

He has the sweet contract and the soft, floating shot. He's the fresh new face of the made-over Pistons, and of all his intriguing qualities, one rates pretty darn high. - 10/30/2009

Goliaths drool as Central Michigan rules

I'm willing to say Iowa isn't the Worst 8-0 Team in Big Ten history. According to my computers, the Hawkeyes have been upgraded to the Luckiest 8-0 Team in Big Ten history. - 10/29/2009
