Sports writer

Dave Dye has worked at The Detroit News since June 1985. He grew up in Ann Arbor (Huron High) and graduated from Michigan State (journalism). He's been the MSU beat writer since Tom Izzo's first season as head coach. He's covered five Final Fours, five Stanley Cup Finals, two NBA Finals, one World Series and, much to the dismay of his bosses, two Aloha Bowls and two Maui Invitational tournaments. He can be reached at ddye@detnews.com.

Dave's favorites
  • Favorite restaurant: Damon's. Great place to watch games when we're on the road.
  • Favorite sports venue: The Rose Bowl. Yes, despite covering Michigan State, I have been there.
  • Favorite Big Ten city: Madison, Wis. Although it gets a little nerve-wracking when they start doing the "jump-around" and the press box starts shaking at Camp Randall Stadium.
  • Favorite vacation: Alaskan cruise. Took a helicopter ride, landed on a glacier and went dog-sledding. It doesn't get better than that.
  • Childhood idol: Former Maple Leaf Dave Keon. I went to his hockey camp and wore No. 14 because of him.
