Editorial Quick Hits: Move on state reforms

The Granholm administration this week notified 55 idle state police officers their recall to work was being delayed because of state revenue concerns and then, a day later, reversed itself and told the officers to report back to their posts as originally planned. The governor also told her department heads to start laying the ground work for still more steep cuts -- around 20 percent -- in the 2011 budget. It's time for lawmakers to stop trying to rewrite the budget they just passed and focus steadily on such reforms as modified public employee health benefits and better road funding. Sensible spending and more efficient government are the best formula for the uncertain times yet to come.
