4 WWII aircraft housed at Municipal Airport
Four World War II aircraft from the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run Airport will be stored at the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport for at least six months until a more permanent location is found, said Derek Thiel, Grosse Ile airport manager.
The B-17, C-47, B-25 and Stinson aircraft landed at their new home last week. A fire destroyed the museum's storage facility a few years ago and the hangar where the vintage planes were stored temporarily has been decommissioned, he said. Grosse Ile Municipal Airport will be allowed to show the aircraft in the hangar, he said.
