Oakland County Child Killer victims' families meet cops

The families of two of the victims of the infamous Oakland County Child Killer met with law enforcement officials for more than two hours on Tuesday, but no one who attended the meeting would tell the waiting media what was discussed.

"No comment" was the quote of the afternoon as officials departed the Michigan State Police post in Oak Park that houses the task force files of the unsolved abduction, molestation and murder of four children in 1976 and 1977.

The officials attending included Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Rob Moran, retired Livonia detective sergeant Cory Williams and Michigan State Police sergeant detective Garry Gray.

Barry King and Chris King, the father and brother of victim Timmy King, left quickly without a comment. They were followed by Kristine Mihelich's family: Tom Ashcroft, Mihelich's stepfather, and Erica McAvoy, her sister.

State Police Capt. Harold Love, second district commander, acknowledged that the families appeared upset.

"Just talking about their children again would make anybody upset," Love said.

But Love also refused to shed any light on what was discussed.

"The meeting was a follow-up on a request for the families to meet, be updated and mend some communication gaps that have occurred," he said. "There are no new leads, nothing new to report and to say any more than that would hamper the integrity of the investigation."

Barry King , who says his family knows who killed his 11-year-old son Timmy in 1977, has accused Michigan State Police investigators of withholding information on the most promising lead in the case.
