Police to target drunken drivers during Halloween weekend in Macomb

Santiago Esparza / The Detroit News

People who intend to party over the Halloween weekend better make sure they have designated drivers.

Several Macomb County police departments will have extra patrols on the road tonight and Saturday night looking for people who may have enjoyed one drink too many before driving, Macomb County sheriff's officials said.

Officers from Clinton Township, Utica, Michigan State Police and the Macomb County Sheriff's Office will increase patrols on Gratiot, Groesbeck, Hall Road and Van Dyke, sheriff's officials said.

Police also will be on the lookout for people who may have used illegal drugs before driving.

The patrols are funded by a Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning grant.
