High Court to hear claim in group therapy shooting
The Michigan Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Lansing today in the case of a woman who was shot by a fellow patient at a group therapy session at her Southfield psychiatrist's office. At issue is whether the estate of Dr. Reuvan Bar-Levav and his Southfield practice are liable for injuries suffered by Elizabeth Dawe, who was wounded by an ex-member of the therapy group, Joseph Brooks Jr., in 1999. A jury awarded Dawe a $646,000 judgment for her negligence claim, but that decision was reversed by the Michigan Court of Appeals.
