MSU student dies after being dragged by vehicle

Leonard N. Fleming / The Detroit News

Detroit --Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old Michigan State University Student and the circumstances that led to him being dragged under a vehicle near Joe Louis Arena on Thursday.

The student, who is from West Bloomfield and is still not being identified, was "dragged quite some distance up" Washington Boulevard around 9 p.m. during the Red Wings hockey game, said police spokesman John Roach.

Roach said police detectives are "actively trying to obtain security video that may shed light on the situation" and witness statements that he may have been hiding behind or under a SMART bus.

Another witness, Roach said, saw a white Cadillac leave the scene near the body.
