Purdue's protection will test U-M's Brandon Graham

Storylines to follow during Michigan's game against Purdue on Saturday:
Graham sacker
There hasn't been much to get hyped about with regard to Michigan's defense lately, with the exception of DE Brandon Graham (fifth nationally in tackles for loss, 17).
He also leads the team with 6 1/2 sacks, although Purdue's offensive line has allowed just 14 sacks in nine games.

Purdue will try to throw the ball, and that strategy makes Graham's role in the pass rush much more vital.
Ready to run
Michigan's running game has been as healthy as its top backs, Brandon Minor and Carlos Brown.
In other words, not very.
In five Big Ten games, they have amassed 595 yards rushing, and in the four Big Ten losses, they have averaged 111.5 yards.
But against Purdue, running the ball will be the way to go, and Minor (high ankle / foot sprain) should be the go-to back.
Staying loose
There's plenty riding on this game. With three games left, Michigan is on the cusp of a sixth victory that would make it bowl-eligible.
Of the three games -- Purdue, at Wisconsin, Ohio State -- the game against Purdue appears to be the most winnable.
Among the keys is the team's mental state. Coach Rich Rodriguez spoke about the players needing to play loose and reacting instead of thinking. They need to play loose but not undisciplined against Purdue.
Terrible twins
The Wolverines have been hurt by turnovers in recent weeks, and conversely, they have not had the good fortune of being on the receiving end the last three games.
They could be in luck today against a team that has been just as poor protecting the ball.
Michigan is 109th of 120 Division I teams -- last in the Big Ten -- in turnover margin with 21 turnovers (11 fumbles).
Purdue is 108th.
