Detroit police break up carjacking ring
George Hunter / The Detroit News
Detroit -- Police have arrested five men and two juveniles who allegedly went on a recent armed robbery spree, carjacking at least 20 people in the span of just a few weeks.
The robberies all took place on the city's east side from late September to mid-October, Detroit Police 2nd Deputy Chief John Roach said.
"This group of young guys apparently just did this for fun," Roach said.

The suspects range in age from 15 to 20.
Police arrested two of the alleged carjackers several weeks ago. "That was the start of the investigation," Roach said. "It led us to the other suspects, and we've finally been able to definitely link them all to 20 robberies."
The first arrest came when officers initiated a traffic stop at Harper and Dickerson on Detroit's east side. The suspects fled and the officers gave chase. "The suspects' car ended up leaving the roadway and crashed at Conner and McNichols," Roach said. "That arrest led us to the rest of the suspects."
