Grosse Ile
Drivers looking to get in or out of Grosse Ile could face delays this week as crews work on maintenance of the Wayne County Bridge. The free bridge is scheduled to be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Friday for sidewalk repairs. Traffic will be diverted to the Grosse Ile toll bridge north of the free bridge. The Grosse Ile Bridge Co. will collect the tolls during those days from traffic traveling on and off the island.

Fire millage opponents ask for ballot recount
Opponents of a fire millage increase that passed Nov. 3 by eight votes filed a petition for a recount Monday with the Brownstown Township clerk. Resident Richard Sexton, who filed the petition, said he believes mistakes were made in the election. The final tally was 1,826 votes yes and 1,818 votes no for the 2-mill increase, which will fund fire and emergency medical services. The Wayne County Board of Canvassers will decide on a recount, and if they approve one, township taxpayers would pick up the tab.
