H1N1 vaccination locations open Saturday

H1N1 vaccinations will be available Saturday at several sites in Wayne County and at Freedom Hill in Macomb County.

Wayne County is offering shots and nasal sprays to fight the virus until 4 p.m. Saturday at the Hamtramck High School Community Center, 11350 Charest, and Schoolcraft Community College, 18600 Haggerty in Livonia. The shots are free. Organizers expect to help thousands of people.

In Detroit, free shots are available for pregnant women, those 6 months to 24 years old, and caregivers, parents and siblings in the home of a child younger than 6 months. Health care workers, emergency personnel and 25- to 65-year-olds with underlying illnesses also are eligible.

Nasal spray is available to healthy individuals ages 2 to 49.

The Detroit locations are:

• 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at the Coleman A. Young Community Center, 2751 Robert Bradby Drive

• 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Heilmann Recreation Center, 19601 Crusade

• 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers

• 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays at the Patton Community Center, 2301 Woodmere

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Herman Kiefer Health Complex, 1151 Taylor.

• 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays at the Butzel Family Center, 7737 Kercheval

In Macomb County, the H1N1 shot and nasal spray are available until 3 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Hill, 15000 Metropolitan Parkway in Sterling Heights.

The vaccine is available for pregnant women, caregivers for children younger than 6 months old, those 6 months to 24 years old, emergency medical services personnel and adults 25-64 years old who have a medical condition and run the risk of increased complications from influenza.
