The Ford stand will be packed with new models and concept vehicles this year, including the Edge crossover, Reflex concept car, Ford Super Chief concept pickup, Explorer Sport Trac and the production version of the GT500 Shelby coupe and convertible. The Fusion and Five Hundred sedans are also new to the Ford lineup, and the Explorer has been substantially upgraded for the 2006 model year.

Specific model details
Crown Victoria: Ford's long-running full-size sedan gets few noteworthy changes for '06. There's a new exterior color (Tungsten clearcoat metallic), and new 16-inch nine-spoke wheels and a trip computer on the Crown Victoria LX. Econoline: Stability control is now standard on 12- and 15-passenger E-350 Super Duty Extended Length models. An electronically controlled four-speed automatic is standard. Edge (2007): The Fusion-inspired crossover vehicle goes on sale next fall. It will be powered by a new 245-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a new six-speed automatic transmission. The company says the Edge will be offered in front- or all-wheel drive and feature seating for up to seven passengers. The Edge's styling includes a three-bar grille patterned after the one on the Fusion sedan. Escape: The 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine is now available on Escape XLT. Two new exterior colors, Titanium Green and Blazing Copper, are added. Escape Hybrid: A new Premium Package bundles leather-trimmed seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, reverse sensing system, hybrid energy display, navigation system, 110-volt power outlet and other popular options. Expedition: A reverse sensing system and side air bags are now offered as stand-alone options. Explorer: The best-selling sport utility vehicle has been extensively redesigned inside and out for '06. Ford has tweaked the Explorer in a number of ways, from boosting the horsepower on the optional 4.6-liter V-8 to improving towing capacity and handling. Among the available features are a six-speed automatic transmission, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, 18-inch chrome-clad wheels, power adjustable pedals, power folding rear seat and a reverse-sensing system. Explorer Sport Trac (2007): Ford Motor has overhauled its Explorer Sport Trac in a big way for model year 2007, stretching its wheelbase and length, creating additional storage space in the bed and offering an optional V-8 engine for the first time. The '07 Sport Trac goes into production this spring and should begin reaching Ford dealers in April. In the mid-size segment, the five-passenger, four-door truck will go head to head with Honda's remarkable Ridgeline pickup. Unveiled in concept guise last year at the New York auto show, the next-generation Sport Trac looks far less like a toy truck than the original, which has been a slow seller for Ford. The '07 edition rides on a wheelbase that's 16.7 inches longer, with overall length growing about five inches. Front-end styling borrows heavily from the recently facelifted Explorer SUV. Ford has added three small storage bins in the bed of the Sport Trac, although they're nowhere near as commodious as the huge lockable trunk in the Ridgeline's bed. However, the '07 Sport Trac gets a leg up on Honda by offering a 292-horsepower 4.6-liter V-8 and six-speed automatic transmission as an option. Base engine is a 210-horsepower 4.0-liter V-6 mated to a five-speed automatic. ABS, traction control and side air bags are standard; four-wheel drive and side curtains are among the options. F Series: A limited-edition Harley-Davidson package returns, with Monotone Black exterior, 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, high-gloss Piano Black interior trim, black aniline leather seats and chrome details. The Harley edition can be ordered for the first time in 4x2 or all-wheel drive. New 20-inch wheels are available on FX4, Lariat and King Ranch, and there are new option packages on XL, XLT and Lariant. Later in the model year, the SuperCrew will be available with a 6.5-foot cargo box, a flexible-fuel 5.4-liter V-8 will be offered and a new luxury package will be available on the FX4. In the F-250/F-350 Super Duty family, the Amarillo and King Ranch packages have been upgrade, and a new Chrome Package is offered. Also, 20-inch polished-aluminum forged wheels are available on SRW Crew Cab 4x4 Lariat, King Ranch and Amarillo variants. Five Hundred: A family entertainment system is now available on SEL and Limited models; leather-trimmed seats can be ordered on the SE and a navigatioin system is now offered on the Limited. A new paint choice is Silver Birch. Focus: A new Street Appearance Package is available on the ZX4 and, later in the model year, on the ZX3 and ZX5. A CD/MP3 player is standard on all models, while six-disc CD changer systems now include steering-wheel controls. New paint colors have been added, and alloy wheels can be ordered as stand-alone options on S and SE models. Freestar: Only three models -- SE, SEL and Limited -- are being marketed in '06. There are modest styling changes and several new colors and option packages. Freestyle: A navigation system is now available, along with a new color, Silver Birch.
Fusion: Ford's all-new mid-size sedan is a companion to the Mercury Milan and the Lincoln Zephyr. The front-wheel-drive four-door will be joined later in the year by an all-wheel-drive variant and in '07 by a hybrid gas/electric edition. Several powertrain choices are available, including a twin-cam, 221-horsepower 3.0-liter V-6 and six-speed automatic. Base engine is a 160-horsepower DOHC 2.3-liter four-cylinder. The cabin can be trimmed in leather and piano black or traditional wood. GT: A limited-edition model in Tungsten Gray commemorates Ford's 1-2-3 sweep of the LeMans 24-hour endurance race in 1966. Mustang: The 2007 Shelby GT500 coupe and convertible will begin arriving in Ford showrooms this summer. Prices are expected to start at under $40,000. Both versions of the GT500 will be marketed as part of Ford's SVT performance portfolio³and here's why: Under the hood is a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 churning out more than 450 horses and lashed to a six-speed manual gearbox. The GT500 convertible will get a power folding top made of premium fabric. And it eschews the fat nose-to-tail racing stripes that adorned the coupe, in favor of a more subtle stripe job on the rocker panels. Inside, the dash and door panels are rendered in black leather, with seats trimmed in red. Otherwise, the ragtop shares most sheet metal and hardware with the hardtop, including the solid rear axle that was introduced on the 2005 Mustang. The standard Mustang V-6 offers a new Pony Package that includes sport suspension, larger wheels and tires, ABS, traction control and a custom grille with foglamps. Ranger: Ford has made a series of modest changes on its compact pickup for '06. All models get revised bumper colors, a horizontal grille insert, fender flares, clear-lens parking lamps, new taillamps and foglamps. The Ranger Edge is renamed Ranger Sport. The FX4/Off-Road now available in two- and four-door SuperCab versions. The 2.3-liter four-cylinder is now standard on XL and XLT two-door SuperCab 4x2 versions. There are new colors and option packages. Taurus: For '06, the only models are SE and SEL. A new color, Tungsten clearcoat metallic, is added. |
