It took nearly a year, but Michael Chamas, whose small, personal restaurant, Bistro 222, is something of an oasis on busy Michigan Avenue in Dearborn, is now able to serve beer and wine with his carefully composed plates that are a blend of California, France and Italy. His appealing menu offers herb-lavished dishes typified by free-range chicken Marsala, a lighter version of the classic dish, seafood risotto and a shrimp burger he created to wean his son away from fast food. - 11/18/2009

Formerly the Zinc Brasserie and Wine Bar, the Redcoat Tavern on Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield has been an instant success since opening in September, says co-owner Mark Brown.

Dining out: Diamond Jim Brady's Bistro

Shepherd's pie is back for the season at Diamond Jim Brady's Bistro. Every year at about this time, chef/proprietor Mary Brady brings back the homey dish that includes ground beef simmered with carrots, leeks and onions in a tarragon gravy, with garlic mashed potatoes as the top crust. It's $15, and that includes a choice of Caesar or house salad. - 11/04/2009
