Shepherd's pie is back for the season at Diamond Jim Brady's Bistro. Every year at about this time, chef/proprietor Mary Brady brings back the homey dish that includes ground beef simmered with carrots, leeks and onions in a tarragon gravy, with garlic mashed potatoes as the top crust. It's $15, and that includes a choice of Caesar or house salad. - 11/04/2009

Right chef, right wine at Kitchen Sync
The tiny kitchen of this Northville wine shop, in full view next to the six-seat wine bar, includes only a double-tier convection oven, two induction burners and a panini grill, but it seems to be plenty for the chef's small but well-chosen menu. - 10/29/2009
