Wayne Friend of Court seeks those owed money

    The Wayne County Friend of the Court says it is trying to distribute child-support funds to parents it can’t find.

    It recently hired a private company to assist in its efforts, and it gave The Detroit News a list of 110 names of people for whom the court has exhausted all other search efforts. The list represents a fraction of such accounts, but the court wouldn’t disclose a complete listing or a total amount of undistributed funds.

    “It speaks to the effort we’re doing to try and find these people,” said Violet Leonard, director of internal audits for the Wayne County Friend of the Court.

    The court is holding $158,269 of undisbursed child-support money for those 110 individuals, Leonard said.
